In today’s cleaning topic, we’re going to go over the difference between a cloth towel and a microfiber towel. Whenever possible, resist the urge to use a cotton cloth or a rag. These cloths wear down over time after they have been laundered enough. Rags also hang onto bacteria, and they’ll actually transfer dirt, mold and bacteria from one surface to another.
It is also hard to tell the difference from one cloth to another. Microfibers, on the other hand, trap dirt and bacteria in the rag itself and hold on to it. That way, nothing is transferred when you move to another surface. Also, microfibers come in many different colors so you can prevent accidental cross contamination such as using stainless steel cleaner on a computer monitor, or using a bathroom cloth on an office desk.
One tip with microfibers is to fold the cloth in half twice. You then have two sides that are clean. By folding and unfolding the cloth, you actually create eight sides that can be used with the same microfiber towel.
To sum it up, make sure you or your janitorial company are using microfiber cloths. They are durable, specially designed to prevent cross contamination and are color coated so you don’t get mixed up when cleaning multiple types of surfaces or using different cleaning chemicals.
